“I create my work as a composer of music might. I usually tone the canvas or paper warm yellows and allow shadows and lights to emerge. I then begin to play with those, darkening or lightening them and adding more color. Each stroke leads to the next, and as the work progresses and the dialog between me and the painting grows, additions and changes occur creating the composition. Even though the final compositions appear geometric, these evolve from within and are not planned.
Much of my recent and current work is abstract although I also work some with landscape. Recently I have begun some combinations of the abstract with minimal landscape imagery. And I have also revived my interest in horse imagery and am doing some paintings featuring the horse.”
